1977 Z1000A1 EXHAUST

#1 PostAuthor: RGH » Sat Feb 02, 2019 12:58 pm

Help please, if l were to cut the rusty beyond repair mufflers of an A1 exhaust , would a pair of Z1R 1980 D3 mufflers fit up with a made up sleeve and match up with muffler mounts? The sleeve will be partially hidden behind the heat shield, also would the mufflers have similar appearance? It’s a daily rider rain hail or sun shine but trying too keep it looking standard, surpose it would be louder as the A1 doesn’t have Z1R collector box. Like to know before l purchase the used D3 mufflers cheers

Don't think they would look too bad.

If you can wait until tomorrow, I will photograph a Z1-R muffler next to a full A1 system.
Cheers,

Mark.

That'll be great thankz Mark, just looked at sales brochures and may not get away with it, the Z1R muffler overall looks shorter, hence the sleeve join may not be covered by the A1 heat shield at all.

I don't think it's a stupid idea.

A pair of D3 silencers new from here https://z1parts.net/kz1000-z1r-d3-muffl ... 18002-104/
a couple of taper sections that fit on the Z1000A system and into the Z1-R silencers, in stainless and polished, once it's on the bike would look quite presentable I think.

It's not like there are many options.
Cheers,

Mark.
