Folks
Has anyone found a rear master cylinder off another make/model that can be rigged up to replace the original? Mine is worn and leaking so just want one that works.

Hi Tony
where is it leaking? Between the plastic cup and the alloy body or is it leaking from the cylinder underneath?
When it's leaking from beneath, you can replace the cylinder, they're available.
When it's leaking between the plastic cup and the alloy body you can replace the O-ring. It's easy to remove the cup, only two screws hold it there. The O-ring has an external diameter of 52 mm and is square. The height is 2,85 mm, the width is 2,35 mm.
I think you can find that O-ring in the UK somewhere, much cheaper than a new master brake cylinder.
Good luck
Philippe

Cheers for the info
It is leaking from the cylinder. Fluid is getting past the piston. Bore looks good but piston rubber seems a bit weak. Price of a cylinder would probably be too high.

Hi Tony
look at this:

don't forget to add VAT and P&P !
How much would an other rear brake master cylinder cost you? If it's second hand you can't be sure it doesn't leak...take no risk, think about your safety!

Well done sherlock finding that. I tried that site but couldn't get a result for the old z1000.
I take your point about using second hand but sometimes there are more modern items that can do the same job so it is worth the ask.
Cheers

Hi .
If you haven't already fixed it and the piston is in good condition then the seals from a front master cylinder are suitable. Speak to Paul at Brakemasters who are on the link below . He is very knowledgeable.
https://powerhouse.uk/... 01246 260665 They advertise in CMM and other mags.
Kit he supplied me was a Tourmax kit part no. 280069. ( 22 pounds )It is much cheaper than 75 pounds for the whole kit form other suppliers.
They also supply reasonable priced rebuild kits for the rear caliper with stainless steal pistons which maybe worth considering coz it always takes me much longer to bleed the thing then fix it.
