What if I want to use the standard top mounts?

Gus

If the S/A shock mounts are wider than mounts on the frame you can buy or get made some screw on extensions for the original top shock mounts.

Yes I got some shock mount extensions off here. I was wondering about the shock angle to the swing arm is it just a case of matching the original or maybe going slightly steeper to allow for the smaller wheel?

Just go for the same angle to keep it simple.
Laying the shocks will soften the back end but give slightly more travel so spring rate or preload may need adjustment
There's lots of variables though depending on where the bottom mounts are and length of the replacement arm.
Most modern twin shock arms are longer and the mounts correspondingly further back.
This will lay the shocks down slightly and also lower the bike so you may need 10mm or 20mm longer shocks to get the height back but with the arms usually being a wider section the shock mounts also sit higher than stock so sometimes the differences cancel each other out and you get away with stock shock length.
If you are welding mounts to the arm then you can set them where you like.
Just take a measurement from the wheel spindle to a fixed point on the frame before you start for reference of ride height when setting up the new arm.

All at the measuring stage at the mo, might try and mot it as it is if it runs, then build the units up so they bolt straight in, rear end, frontend

But it probably won't be easy to line up with the gearbox sprocket like that!
Cheers,

Mark.

Is that wheel a 5.5 inch rim ?
If it is you want and 5/8th offset front sprocket and with the rear wheel true central you want the sprocket carrier face 101mm from the centerline.
That will get the sprocket alignment millimeter perfect and the chain will just slip past the tyre and frame with a few mill clearance.

It's only the 4.5" I may source a 5.5" fireblade wheel is the same but I've got this complete so going with this for now, with a 160 tyre, I've also got a offset sprocket from my spare zed engine, somehow I've ended up with 3 engines and one bike

Thanks for the Info will come In handy :)
