Anyone got a tip on how to fill the black colouring back in and around the DOHC lettering on the magneto and points covers after they've been polished?

Permanent marker works great

I used a toothbrush and some Jif to clean up the area first, then used a strip of masking tape that goes over the outer groove, covering the entire elongated rectangle above the "DOHC" logo. I masked off the rest of the cover, and used my fingernail to break the masking tape, until I could remove the centre section of tape - which then perfectly masks off the outer shape, leaving the raised "DOHC" casting and the surrounding rough surface. I then sprayed satin matt black over the exposed bits, let it dry, then go over the DOHC with wet 'n dry that exposes the polished letters. Seems to have worked a treat :-)

if you can get the part off the bike so the raised letters are flat it helps the paint to go where it should.
I used some heat resistant black paint and blobbed it in with a pointed wooden stick ( like a BBQ skewer).
You can push the paint around with the point to get it in the corners and it levels out due to gravity.
Keep the paint runny by not doing it on a hot dry day or adding a bit of thinners.
Obviously clean the area first to remove any grease.

Polish first, mask main area and paint black, repolish the black off.

hobbos permanent marker tip sounds like the way ahead, cheap n cheerful, no masking etc n easy to freshen up if n when required. I'm going for it on my mk2 covers.bargain hobbo!! cheers m

Easy option - no brainer!

Just paint the area with humbrol engine enamel, then get a bit of kitchen towel over a flat wood baton.
Wet the towel with brake cleaner and wipe over. Change the towel and repeat until sorted.

Leaves lovely crisp edges

sipa marker paint pen got the tip from dave z power.got one off ebay looks like a marker pen but is paint worked a treat.
