Engine internals 1972-1980 kick start models

#1 PostAuthor: Swirl » Mon Feb 18, 2019 4:21 pm

Right were to start, with the welded crank and gear box from my 76 Z9 A4, as well as everything else go in my 1980 Z1000H motor and the other way round, I'm wanting to keep the numbers right on the motors, as I've already got the welded crank forged pistons etc will all go in the H cases

I have been reading some threads about different bits, but if you have 2 complete engines can it be done

Hi Swirl
I suppose you only want to keep the welded cranckshaft of your z900a4 with pistons and head? If so, you can easily switch them from one bike to the other. Just don't forget that the Z900A4 cranckshaft has 15 teeth on the central pignon and that the Z1000H cranckshaft has 16 teeth. Don't forget to change the according camshafts and camshaft chain (Z900A4 camshaft sprocket has 30 teeth and a 122 link camchain; Z1000H camshaft sprocket has 32 teeth and a 124 link camchain) Also keep in mind that the Z1000H has bigger intake and exhaust valves than a Z900A4 and thus different pistons.
As far as the gearbox is concerned, don't change it, it has a different gear selector mechanism and the output shaft is different too. The shaft where the front sprocket mounts is longer.
I hope you get it right, good luck!

Thanks Phillipe, a4 has welded crank, 1045cc forged High comp pistons, tsubaski Camilla cam chain, ported head, Andrews cams, tracs heavy duty clutch, other ape bits and pieces, ideally would like to use it all in the H casings

Everything will swap over.
The main difference in cases is the bolt pattern of the inner covers that holds the sprocket seals etc so obviously they have to stay with their original case.
