Battery

#1 PostAuthor: Wayne1960 » Mon Mar 11, 2019 9:59 am

Can anyone advise what battery I should install in my 1976 Kawasaki Z900 A4.

I would like to keep it as original as possible but equally want something that's going to maintain its charge.

Be good not to have the worry of acid!

Depends how much you want to spend, but after years of poor starting I've just fitted a Shido lithium iron battery to my J and it's been brilliant all winter. It's got much greater cranking power than normal lead acid batteries, but they ain't cheap !

You should not be able to buy a battery with a separate acid pack now.

It has been illegal to sell them by mail-order or even over the counter since last June. They are all supposed to be factory sealed or filled and sealed at the supplying dealer.

It is also illegal to send a lead/acid type that could leak via mail order too.

If you do manage to buy a dry battery - expect hassle when you try and get it filled at a dealer that did not sell it to you.

Bottom line is - buy factory sealed by mail order - OR buy a wet battery from a dealer. (Or go lithium) :)

Blame all the scooterboy feckwits that developed the acid throwing fetish ....

I always use Yuasa YB10L-A2. Some suppliers recommend fitting a a different part, sorry can't remember the part number, but I found them too tall for my Z900-A4. Just check the size you order will physically fit.

Yuasa is what I currently have. Do they do Lithium or just the traditional style batteries?

Maybe I have a dud it just doesn’t hold a charge!

Guys just received my Yuasa Gel battery and found it to be too tall. Typical!! so if i fit it i have to cut the top of the battery cradle and i don't think to round air filter will fit!

Is this normal or have i got the wrong battery.

What model do you have? As far as I can tell Yuasa do not do a gel equivalent to YB10L-A2
