Back in the day, Motorcycle Mechanics tested a Z1a at 67-68 bhp at the wheel on a sexy Heenan Froude dyno :)

It made 78 rwhp which I thought was very good.

I would live with that. What pipes does it have Chris?

It was bog stock.

A little bit less at the wheel due to losses through the drive train and knock about 20 hp and 40 mph off the top end if fitted with one of those iffy restrictive pattern 4x4 pipes that were produced a while back..

Interesting comment, I've got repro 4into4's fitted to my Z1b which I purchased from Zpower around 16 yrs ago.

They have stampings on with Z1/Z2 something or other and are painted over the weld where they join the silencers , are these more or less restrictive than the later ones and much different to the ones that came off.

Read loads about baffles etc and still not clear.

Regards.

Just from memory....always thought the std bikes had somwhere id the 60-70 bhp.

back in the day, we didn't have access to dynos, so the manufacturers could get away with saying what they liked.

I have a set of Original Kawasaki exhausts bought from zpower 2008, still in boxes , stamped Kawasaki z1//z2 1976 etc with painted welds , these were some of the last pipes produced by Kawasski as they had been continuing production till then , when all the replicas started to appear
yes you can have too many bikes
