Replacing the original Z1000-A1 rear footrest hangers

Hi all
I want to remove the horrible pressed steel footrest hangers and have some brackets welded on so that I can use some triangular-style ally ones instead. I'm not planning to use rearsets, so I don't need to mount them particularly high up or far back. Also the bike will be running a 4-1 and no centrestand, so I only need the RH one to have a boss for the exhaust mounting bracket.
I've seen lots of Zeds modified with this idea - does anyone have any recommendations for which donor ones I could use? I don't want ones that splay out massively as I'm not going to run anything bigger than a 150 rear tyre on a 3.50 rim.
Looking at the new GSX250-R, the ones off there might be suitable. Part of the problem is that modern bikes have a shallower angle for the rear subframe.
Cheers
