early hub

#1 PostAuthor: needaz1100r » Sat Apr 06, 2019 7:50 pm

Help sorting a quandary,

I have a front wheel hub, it appears to be an early black one and the reliable source (Grubby from MTC Reading) clearly remembers it coming from a crashed Z1-A.

BUT, it has a 4 bolt disc, not 6.

Is there a cross-over? Were Z1-B hubs 6 or 4 bolt?

Incidentally, I haven't yet removed the disc to see if maybe it was re-drilled for a 4 bolt disc?? I will do that tomorrow.
Cheers,

Mark.

Hi needaz1100r
all the Z1, Z1A and Z1B front wheel hubs had a 6 bolt disc. The 6 bolt hubs are larger in diameter than the 4 bolt hubs.
To my knowledge there were no 4 bolt hubs in those days (73 -74 - 75) for the Z1A.
Perhaps it wasn't the original hub in that Z1A .

Thanks Phillippe

I knew about the Z1A and Z1. I've never been up close and personal with a Z1-B so just wanted to be sure.

Yours would seem to be the only logical explanation.

Are you located far from Raalte?
Cheers,

Hi needaz1100r
I live in Belgium, in the south of the province of East Flanders, in a small village: Lierde.
If you want pictures of the hubs, just let me know.

280mm disc, original black finish, M8 boltsx4, 9K date code ie 1974.

I am thinking Adrain's H1 suggestion may be correct.

Would appreciate any input,

Thanks,
Cheers,

Mark.

I think S3, effectively KH400.

Thanks Mark, but this is just in my old stock, I can sell it now I know what it is.

Don't need a 6 bolt disc, but good to know you have one.

Looks like I am picking up another Z1 project at the weekend, so I'll be in touch...
