Hi all
Could anybody tell me how I go about adding a second disc
Disc , calliper etc to my 1974 Z1b , as you know
they are double disc on later models so would
the existing wheel and forks work or need to replace them. Cheers

Original twin brake set up also uses thinner disc's to reduce unsprung weight so you'd need to source 2 new discs if going down the factory route. ....

Never knew a z1b DD conversion used thinner discs, thought it was only z900/z1000 that used the thinner discs.

The simplest way would be to shove a Z650C front end in. You can reuse your spoke wheel

Correct, the Z900-A4's came as standard in the UK with twin discs, which were thinner than the earlier Z1/A's/B's.
Upgrading the earlier Zeds to twin discs involved fitting a second thicker disc as the later thinner items had not been made at that point.
Also, the Z900 discs had four mounting bolts whereas I understand some of the earlier Zed discs had six mounting bolts.

BTW, GPz900R calipers fit straight on Z1000A2 for what it's worth, and work a helluva lot better than the standard single piston calipers.

as already stated, the z1-z1b only came with a single 6 bolt disc, so the way ahead is to find a 2nd disc n the associated plumbing.the m/cylinder, 2nd caliper, pipes etc are readily available (or a PAIR of discs if poss?) look out for a drilled pair for best results. good luck. m

Z1, Z1A and Z1B discs and brake calipers are different animals to the later single (thick) or twin (thin) discs.

Z1 series discs are 6 bolt mount, Z900A4 onwards are 4 bolt.

Caliper bolt spacings are different.

I have a pair of Z1 discs if you (cabmonkey) wants to PM me.

Would GPz900R callipers fit on a 1000J too ?
