My 1000R2 had a bad vibration last time i rode it , in fact its always had one since I bought the bike
I decided to have a look tonight and found this when i took the alternator cover off ....... easy enough to fix and almost certainly the problem but what has caused it ?

Its either been down on the LHS or someone may have used an inappropriate method of removing the rotor at some point in the past. The correct tool or similar grips the two small (10mm approx) holes in the outside of the drum and does not put any inward pressure on the drum and the fragile (brittle) glue which attaches the magnets.
Do you have another rotor?

its a common problem due to the bonding agent that is used to glue the magnets breaking up & the magnets come loose Kawasaki had the same problem on the ex / er 500 twin but modified the rotor by encasing the magnets in a thin steel cage

the key way is only there to prevent it from spinning as the trigger for the electronic ignition is welded to the rotor it would still fit a crank without the key way
