How to get a V5 from Reg plate

#1 PostAuthor: rpeters » Fri May 10, 2019 6:27 am

I bought a rolling z1000 project as part of a garage clearout years ago from someone on here cant remember who. it had a number plate but part of the VIN is unreadable. I didnt get a log book with it as it had been lost. Has anyone had experience of this. I cant request a new v5 without the VIN?
Any advice appreciated
Cheers

That wont work with a partial vin.
You need to get a trade hpi done, not a normal hpi but a trade hpi, this can be done on the vin or the reg and will give the other, frame number will only give reg if has been UK registered obviously, I can put you in touch with a guy who maybe able to help if need be.

Try local MOT station. If it’s been Mot’d since they went computerised you should get details.

used to be a guy on the visordown forum that offered an unofficial trade hpi check,
For a small fee he would do you a screen print out off the system showing the reg and or VIN.

just a thought

have your tried lightly sanding with fine grit wet and dry the frame ? I had this with a frame and as you flat and sort of polish the steel it started reveal the numbers really just depends on how the frame was messed with I guess

the police used to acid frames to see the old numbers not sure how this works but bet the is some thing on Youtube on it

I've just used wet and dry on a frame and the numbers came up clear enough to be legible so I could read them and apply for the V5.
