Z1000 a1 alloy wheels

I quite fancy having alloys on the a1 that's next inline for a spruce up, I have seen a set from a z1000 police bike and was wondering if they are the same wheels as the a2 had, any idea's?

Kawasaki Z1000a2 came with spoked wheels, however with alloy wheels being offered as an upgrade. Which would have been Z1R alloy wheels, 18 inch front and back. With 4 bolt holes for discs front and back.

Z650C alloy wheels (discs all round) will go in with minimal work and there are plenty about. Change of bearings on the rear to get to the correct axle size, assuming you are running a stock swingarm ? but other than that, its pretty straight forward.

Just check the disc sizing - some later Z650's had different size front discs - basically when they went from 4 bolt to multi bolt fixing.

I ran a Z1000 Metmachex swingarm for ages on my 650. All I did on that was use the smaller diameter eccentric axle mounts in the swinger instead of the larger Z1000 eccentrics and it all dropped straight in.

Yes they were 19” are from d2-d3 z1rs German z1000s is 19 “ too

You will need the rear sproket carrier plus cush drive also as they differ from spoke wheel ones

Mine A1 had cast wheels put on it about 1980. My brother worked in the local Kawasaki centre at the time and they were flogging them really cheap so it was cheaper to put them in than replace the spoked rear which had already started to rot.... they came from Kawasaki as bare wheels and didn’t need a carrier and cush drive they were a straight bolt in.

Why would they have some it that way, needing a carrier and so on it would have put the price up a good bit and back then most people were skint...

The alloys on my Z1000A2 - which have been on the bike from new are both 18 inch alloys and are identical to Z1R.

19 inch alloy front wheel did not come in till the MK2 engined 1979 Z1000 D2. Also 1983 Z1000 D3.

Well all I know is these went on here in 1979 or early 1980 and it’s a 19” front it’s still out in the garage. This pic is 1980.

I did this on an A2 and had to get the parts mentioned

The part numbers are also different

Spoked wheel sprocket carrier is 42008-034 Cast wheel is 42033-1005
Spoked wheel cush drive is 42014-028 Cast Wheel is 42014-033
Also required is a spacer on axle 42010-039

Maybe I’m wrong and the thing came a complete wheel then it was forty years ago... the same rear wheel seems common to the 650s and Z1R and is also listed for the A1...

It’s a 2 owner bike. I bought the bike off a friend in 1985, who had had it from new, (with the 18 inch alloys front and back). I have known the bike from new as he lived 4 houses away. We used to hang out with the same group- The Wheelhouse Club.
