Fork legs difference

#1 PostAuthor: deka » Wed Jul 10, 2019 9:02 pm

The fork leg bottoms are different on the z900a4 and z1000a1 to the z1000a2 a slight difference that will not allow a2 callipers to fit in a forward facing configuration, this was not a plan I thought I had a4 legs

The a4 and a1 are on the left and the rear facing caliper a2 on the right notice the different positions for the drain screw
Hope this helps anyone identify the difference. Only found out after I had built them with new seals

Hi Derek
the drain screw of the Z900A4-Z1000A1 should be at the deepest point of the fork leg.
The two holes to fit the caliper should be at the front.
As you stated in your message, you have two different fork legs, a left hand side Z1000A2 and a right hand side Z900A4. It's not only the outer legs that are different but also the inner tubes and dampers, springs and upper bolts.
Since you want to make a Z900A4, you'll need a left hand side fork leg to fit your bike.
Some people changed the Z900A4-Z1000A1 fork legs from place, left went right and vice versa in order to place the calipers behind the fork legs. They forgot that the left fork leg had a stop for the speedometer cable housing
that prevented it to turn.
I also think that a previous owner took off a little part from the bottom of the Z900A4-Z1000A1 outer fork leg in order to give it a flush appearance...
You need a decent pair of Z900A4-Z1000A1 fork legs. PM send.
