Anyone recently used SEP to rebore their barrels
and had problems?
They made and installed new liners bored to match NOS
pistons I sent. New rings fitted etc and fired
the old girl up yeterday, smoked like a bugger

You have built far more engines than most so not teach granny to suck eggs. Don't all newly built engines smoke when first started, particularly if the bores are lubed for assembly? Curious to know what the honing was like on the new liners and what effect this will have on running in?

Mike,
Get your kit on and go and put a few steady miles on it and hopefully watch the smoke clear.
SEP have an excellent reputation.
PJ Engineering(Wolverhampton) made the liners for my Z1B from a lump of iron, they are and have been in the club book for years.

+1 on the above re SEP . As long as the rings were fitted correctly & the right way up & the barrel / liner O rings were installed it should be OK. Mmmm I'd run it in briskly as oppose to too lower loading & too lower rev's ...best keep rpm varied & rev's say 4-6 thou rpm for about 200 miles & perhaps re-access it then . Cheers.

I'm getting old... Measured bores & pistons and
SEP work spot on, excellent in fact. Rings over gapped
so NOS set on order I forgot to check this as I gave the whole
lot to SEP with rings fitted, not sure who made the rings
I'd fitted previously but schoolboy error.
Should be firing the old girl up shortly
