Taco drive leak

Has anyone tried removing the drive in the head to replace the seals? The cross head screw on mine doesn’t want to budge

Yes, many times. The screw is often seized. An impact driver will sort it out, failing that heat and penetrating fluid will help. I've replaced the screw with an allen bolt.

Hi Jonhunt
as scott said, use an impact screwdriver to remove the screw.
Replace the oil seal in the drive and the O-ring around the drive.
Be carefull when putting it back, be sure it's seated correct or it can break. Turn the cranckshaft a few times by hand to make sure it sits correctly.

JIS screw driver, tighten first - then losen.

Do not go swinging at the impact driver like a rock ape though - you can crack the cover if ya do

Got a set of JIS and tried tightening then loosening. Sprayed with penetrating oil. No go.
Another thought do I need to take the cam cover off? Not for the screw but to get the drive aligned

Make sure you replace all three seals!

no need to remove the cam cover heat the casting around the screw & it should come out eventually . do not be tempted to tap the screw round with a chisel or anything like as it will break of the casting

Hi jonhunt
there's an O-ring, an oilseal and an oil gasket. The first two go in and around the tacho drive, the third goes between the tacho drive and the cable. If you don't have one, talk to a plumber, he can provide you a fibre gasket to fit between the tacho drive and the cable.
