So had my bike running on and off over the past week having just got my carbs back on. I set the air screws at one and half turns out and have balanced the carbs. Newish plugs and clean petrol.
New Mobatt battery and Dyna S all checked and spot on timing marks.
The bike starts like a dream an has done for some time BUT
It idles nicely at 1000 rpm but the rev counter flickers? and it hunts so what i mean is its fine then you can here a distinctive seconds delay so not continuous. hard to explain but I'm sure you guys have had similar.
Any thoughts?

Hunting is usually a sign of a weak mixture. Try another 1/4 turn on in on the mixture screw and see if it settles.

Dependent on what carbs you have, if you have mixture screws underneath the throat you need to wind them out a tad, if you have air screws on the sides of the carbs these will need to go in, and all this is according to what carbs and jets you have installed including air filter and exhaust, the use of a color tune would help you out here.

Hi
That’s perfect
• 26mm Makuni’s Air screws in the side
• Original 4 into 4 exhausts
• Jets as spec
• All air filters as original.
I’ll wind them in a tad.
Q. Will that make it run hotter?

No, the opposite surprisingly.

I have been checking the air screw adjustment as suggested and all seems ok but still felt like it was missing. I pulled in the clutch and hey presto it sounded much better and ran a lot smoothe.
Does this suggest the clutch needs adjusting?

Hi al! back again and just trying to sort out the engine. so my friend who also has a Kawasaki Z900 noticed my tacho needle moving when at idle and every time it moved there was a distinct change in the engine revs.
It is constant and does it all the time. Any ideas?
