Front end vibes with Pretech Caliper

#1 PostAuthor: janluke » Sat Sep 07, 2019 6:27 pm

I have a single pretech caliper on the front on the Z1B. I'm feeling some slight front end clunking. The frequency increases, decreases with wheel speed but goes away when the brake is applied. There's nothing obvious rubbing

Any ideas?

Thanks

If your disc is out of true (called warping by some )
You will get pad knock (pads get knocked back further and more Leverpull is required ) more likely is you have paid pick up on the disc

If you have a center stand put bike on it and chock the front so the wheel can be spun

Get a sharpy (felt tip pen) and hold it on the fork leg so it just touched the disc spin wheel and see if you have any run out

If disc is ok you will get a clean even line drawn

To get rid of pad pick up use red scotch bright and clean both side of the disc well with it you can scrub nice and Hard evenly over the surface of the disc it will become nice and shiny

Then ride the bike and apply the front brack softly then medium then Hard let cool and repeat a few times to rebed pads

Let us know how you get on

Also check all bolts on the front end at the same time and disc ect

This should only take 40 to 50 mins to do all of the above including the test ride

There is one more thing I have pretech calipers on my zzr and when we fitted them down at pretech we set them up with some very fine shims between the claiper and fork leg, as the machining on the fork leg mounts was only basic and the billet calipers are very precise and the fit needs to be true check gap top and bottom and side to side of the claiper so the disc gap is even

Many thanks, no centre stand but I'm heading over to see a pal soon and between us we'll jack up the bike and check out as above.

Being a precious about the bike, I'm waiting for a dry day

I'll post up the results
