Exhaust Rust Repair

#1 PostAuthor: rpeters » Tue Sep 10, 2019 6:57 am

Hi Guys,
I have three rust hole on my Z1 tail pipe, doesn't look too bad, but can anyone recommend a repairer/chromer to patch and rechrome?.....is it really possible?
Sure a few of us have had this problem before!
The rest of the pipe appears to be solid

Cheers

Rob

One of mine has a piece of shaped steel brazed in and does not look to bad un-chromed. I was advised that few platers will touch it due to risk of tank contamination and unseen rust leading to the pipes dissolving.

not many chrome platers will re chrome a rusty exhaust unless it has been thoroughly chemically cleaned which then makes the exhaust rust even quicker as soon as it gets condensation in it & then little pin holes start appearing a few months after you have shelled out a few hundred quid save your money & buy a repro set from dave

How have you stopped the uncoated steel from rusting Dave?

I just keep it polished, seems to work.
