Z1 caliper assembly

I have put repair kits in the master cylinder and caliper on my '73 Z1, bled with no air showing but very soft lever action and not much happening as far as braking. Now second guessing on my caliper re-assembly - is pad A (as described in workshop manual) a firm fit in the caliper holder or a floating fit? I'm still running original rubber brake lines so wondering if they might be knackered. Appreciate any guidance.

one pad is fixed to the calliper the other one in the carrier is a loose fit. & yes i would replace the 44 year old rubber hoses

Hi RBY
there might be some air left in the brake line splitter. Remove the two bolts securing it to the lower triple clamp and gently tap on it so that the trapped air can move up to the master cylinder.
When applying the brake you'll see little air bubbles come out of the little hole in it.
If that doesn't help check if the rubber cap in the master cylinder didn't turn when putting it back together.
If that doesn't help, replace the brake lines as z1bman told you.

Pump the brake lever until there is some resistance, then tie wrap the lever to the bars & leave over night , any bubbles will find there way up to the reservoir &your brake will be sorted .

just a thought make sure that tiny hole in the master cylinder is not blocked by crud try pushing in a safety pin, mine was and once unblocked it works fine.
may not be the problem in your case but worth a try.
