Off set sprocket coming loose

Off set sprocket coming loose
Any one else have problems with the nut that holds the front sprocket keeping coming loose on a offset sprocket? The thing is the spline doesn’t come through it so the tab washer doesn’t do it’s job.
Re: Off set sprocket coming loose
photo would help.
what sort of nut are you using ?
tried a schnorr (sp) washer ?

Re: Off set sprocket coming loose
Will get a pic. Using a replacement standard style nut. But the thread showing on the shaft isn’t as much because the offset sprocket is thicker than a standard sprocket. Even tried to have the nut around the other way so the locking part is on the thread and it still come loose.
Re: Off set sprocket coming loose
Ok I will give one a go. What size do I order?

I have a plane and it’s never coming loose again. Will post pics when it’s made.

Brian,
Perhaps try this ....take the G/box sprocket off & take it to a Toolmakers / Engineering shop & get them to Mill down the inside area of the sprocket the required amount for the Tab washer sit on the splines properly as it should do ..........perhaps then send a photo of the finished job & a copy of the Milling bill to the Company that sold you the sprocket ! ( Nothing to loose ...as they are ultimately responsible for supplying a sub standard and potentially dangerous item to the public... they could very easily end up in a Coroners Court if their not careful ! ) Cheers Johny B
Re: Off set sprocket coming loose
Had this issue myself with the latest offset from Talon.
Had to machine the inside face by about 5mm to reveal enough threads to get the nut fully on.
Hardening was tough to cut through which the normal cutting tips wouldn't touch and ended up using a flat faced grind stone in the pillar drill to get to the softer core before truing it up on the lathe.
Tungsten carbide tip would probably have done the job though.

Re: Off set sprocket coming loose
Almost made a solution. It’s never coming loose again.
Re: Off set sprocket coming loose
It will have a m6 bolt going in 2 sides to stop it turning. Obviously the locking spacer will be the other way round before anyone says anything.
Re: Off set sprocket coming loose
Can't you just drill a hole across the corner of the nut flats and through the sprocket and lock wire it?
