Hi all, I have a KZ1000 1978, it has been fitted with the new type do it yourself cam chain adjuster as opposed to the original self adjusting type.
Can anyone recommend the best way of setting it up correctly as i have no info on it ?
Many Thanks

Easiest way if you haven't done it before is with the cam cover off so you can see the cams and cam chain.
Rotate the engine clockwise a couple of times from the timing side and then rock the crank at TDC with a 17mm spanner and you will feel the slack in the chain ( slight movement before the cams move ).
Do this while screwing the manual tensioner bolt in by hand and you will feel the slack reducing to a point where it is barely noticeable then nip up the lock nut.
Rotate the engine again a couple of times and re-check.
Be careful not to go too tight.
You will never get zero play as there is always clearance between the chains rollers and pins.
There's a bit of a knack to it but it's easy once you know what you are doing.

Thanks for the info, makes things a lot clearer. I`ll get out in the garage and give it a try.
Thanks again.
