looking for some help with my z900 a4 that is overcharging. i have between 16-17 dc volts at about 3000 rpm. my knowledge is limited as are my test equipment, i only have a cheap digital multimeter. I have tested the resistance between the regulator brown and black wires and this is ok, no other readings between any other wires on the regulator.
my bike has the regulator under the battery box and std rectifier mounted on the electrical plate. I also have another item which looks like a regulator and is shown for sale as a rectifier on ebay but i'm confused with this item.
here is a photo of said item, could someone tell me what this is?

im using a motoball battery from a different bike.

OEM Regulator is a well known weak link in the Z1 electrics. Bin it and get a combined modern Reg/Rec unit

David historically 250/400 super dream combined reg/recs were a good mod (Hitachi) but recently I've read that modern cbr600 are the current equivalent. that's all i know really ; probably worth looking into? or use a combined z1000 unit. m

I don't know the answer to your regulator / rectifier issues but can advise you to change your side panel rubbers... soon!

Good point. I've heard of several panels flying down the road due to poor fixing

Regulator rectifier is fecked if it's overcharging, replace ASAP or you'll have a cooked battery.
