Hi Zed1015,
Thanks for the quick reply.. I appreciate your help.
This is really strange, sounds like someone has changed a few things around.
I have just had another measure and taken some pictures to make sure I am not going mad.
Old Z1000a1
The main bearings on the old crank are 30mm and the big ends are 29mm with 15 teeth crank sprocket.
New
The main bearing is 30mm on the points side ( same as my old crank)
The main bearing on the generator side is 32mm and 25mm for starter
I have counted the cam sprocket on the new crank (lots of times) and it's definitely 15 teeth
Big end is also 29mm.
Thanks

Re: Z1000 1977
I seem to vaguely remember reading over on the KZR site ages ago that there "may" be a rogue model from the US that had this configuration.
One of the classic or ltd models built in the USA from around 1980 that used up stuff from the parts bin .
It had the mk2 alt but the 15t center pin.
If my foggy memory is correct then that's what you have.

Hi
Thanks again
I contacted the seller and it came from DK and apparently it was from a 1980 custom. Their web site shows a similar crank, I messaged them but no reply. I will try and sort an outer bearing for it to make it usable again. I guess the 32mm bearing must be on the later cranks. Z1100 Mk2 St.
I will try the wanted Adz and see if anyone has such a thing.
Cheers

If you do use that crank I presume you know that you will need the complete alternator windings, rotor and casing etc from a 1000 MK2 or ST unless of course you can machine the original small rotors taper bigger which may bring it's own problems.
Practically no parts from the early alt set up will fit except a few bolts.
Later 'J' and 1100 alts also differ from the MK2 by having different dia rotors and windings although at a glance they look the same.

Hi zed1015,
Thanks for the info. Yes I noticed the changes on the microfiche but would like the option to use it at some stage if possible. I think the crank is of little use without a complete set of bearings and I don't want to put anyone in the same situation I am in.
I did look at machining the rotor or possibly making an adaptor for the new winding but at the moment I just want the easy option (another crank), plus I like the generator cover that I have. I assume the Mk2 generator is better (higher output)?
Cheers

Hi Jules,
We are in Sidford ... just outside Sidmouth. I think there are a few Z owners around here. Looking forward to getting back on a Z again after a few years away.
Cheers
