Z1000 spokes

#1 PostAuthor: Mr Bump » Thu Jan 23, 2020 7:56 pm

Hi,

I'm considering taking the plunge and re-spoking a pair of z1000a1 wheels myself. I can borrow all the tools I need.

Has anyone got any advice on the best source of spokes? Basic Emgo sets cost about £50 a wheel - zinc plated. I can find stainless fronts listed at about double that, but not stainless rears, so I'd have to find a supplier for that.

Is there any need for stainless, or are standard aftermarket zinc plated parts up to the job? Also, can there be issues with the stainless threads galling and ruining the spoke?

Thanks,

Olly

Don't know about any of the things you ask but remember to measure the hub offset before taking the old ones out!

Hi Olly
I heard that zinc plated steel spokes are better than stainless steel spokes, I have no experience with stainless so I can't confirm it.
Good luck with the wheels!
