#1 PostAuthor: pluto » Tue Jan 28, 2020 8:41 pm

Hi Folks, I need a new multi layer steel head gasket for my Gpz1100 with 1170 big bore kit, where is the best (cheapest) place to buy one these days?
Thanks
Dave

Try Chris at Grumpy's he knows you so should give you a decent discount.

Phil beat me to it. If he cant help there's Suzukiperformancespares, and Since Ray is supposed to have initiated this process, he might be worth a ring.
Dave do you know if they can be re-used? I have heard both a yes and a no to that question!!

Chris says the multi layer metal gaskets can be reused.
My one cost about £70, which sounds a lot, but the genuine Kawasaki pair of gaskets are £35ish and can't be reused.

You can re-use them if the Viton coating is intact but you still risk a higher chance of failure over a new one.
They also prefer a smoother machined block and head finish to what you can get away with a conventional fibre gasket so a pitted surface would benefit from a light skim to guarantee a perfect seal.

Thanks all - no one was answering their phone today so will try again tomorrow. This gasket is for my old B2 motor - the engine I was having all the trouble with now has a MLS gasket in it and has remained leak free for quite some time, long may that continue.
