Z1100R / Z1000J Fuel Tanks

#1 PostAuthor: Julian_Boolean » Wed Jan 29, 2020 11:38 am

I've got two European J type fuel tanks, one has a round fuel level sender and one has an oval fuel level sender, I believe the one with an oval sender is an 1100R tank, if this is the case is the 1100R tank worth anymore than the 1000J tank?

BTW the way the 1100R tank has a slight leak, has been badly lined with epoxy and needs respraying, the J tank has also been lined, this time with something black that is starting to break up and clogs pilot jets, the plan is to cut the bottom out of one of them, get it shot blasted back to bare metal, any leaks fixed and then welded back up again.

I’ve had tanks dipped to near perfect condition internally.
Paul Benton arranged this for me.

Had they been coated on the inside with epoxy - this is the stuff I want to get rid of, the holes are relatively simple to get welded.

I don’t believe so. They had the usual rust which was not severe but cam out like new.
I’m not sure if Paul is still around on here but if you can get hold of him I’m sure he’d be helpful.

On CMSNL the parts diagrams show either round or oval sender units as options. The 1100R diagram only shows the oval

The two I have are the same apart from the fuel level senders, but I know that GPZ1100B ones are different because they have returns for the fuel injection opposite the fuel tap.
