Hi everyone.
Rebuilding a 1984 Z1100R motor, is it 44 pins the same as the KZ1100 information for the cam timing.
Thank you.

From memory yes, Z1100R has the same engine as a Unitrak (ZX1100A) but all "J" engines use the same method to set the cam timing

Thanks Julian
It all appears to line up as you’d expect. But I just wanted to know if Anyone actually has a manual for the Z1100R and could double check for me. Just for piece of mind.
Cheers bud.

I've got one at home, it's a supplement to the Z1000J manual, the Clymer manual is possibly better for explaining how to time the cams

As was said above; 44 pins which is the same for all the J type motors. This should put the two dash marks level with the gasket surface of the head fore and aft when the crank is at tdc. This may give a loose top run to the cam chain if the marks line up exactly which is also correct as the passive blade in the cam cover deflects the chain downward when installed. Dropping the cam cover on has been known to make the chain jump the front sprocket un-seen and if the tensioner is in place and locked the cam cover will crack. Cam cap bolts are 'nip up' and no more. Other than that they are bomb proof.
