Oil pump screen

Hi Zedheads
I'm stripping my 1000A1 motor. The front cam chain guide had disintegrated at some point and there's loads of bits of rubbery stuff stuck in the oil pump screen. How does that screen come out? Do you just prise it out carefully with a knife or something? It doesn't say in the manual. Also, if I fit a new one, is it just a push fit or does it need to be stuck in with something?
Cheers!

They are a push fit like an oil seal. No adhesive.
You can prise them out but you have to be careful not to distort the edge.
The screen is pretty tough and you should be able to remove the debris with a bit of scrubbing etc.
I've had some real horrendous ones and managed to get them clean without removing the screen.

Cool thanks I will give it a go. It's not horrendous, but definitely needs clearing off. I've managed to pick a few of the bigger bits out of it with a pick tool - I'll try a scrubbing brush!

I usually swill them in petrol, blow them with the air line and sweep across the surface of the mesh with an upright stanley blade then rinse and repeat.
The blade catches and pulls out most of the particles without harming the mesh.
Pair of tweezers might make an appearance too.

Thanks for the Stanley blade tip - I'll give that a go. I still need to do this job - been gradually stripping the rest of the motor. It's fairly reluctant to come apart... (but the head came off OK).
