I'll bet this one has been gone over and over more than once. I have had a search both here and on the wider web before asking this...
Ive got a gpz1100b2 running perfectly well on gpz750 uni carbs and air box, Harris race pipe. I can't resist fixing things that ain't broke, so I'm poking around the idea of putting pod filters on.
I've got this far:
Use decent pods, not cheap tat. Make sure they don't mask the slider port thingys
A 40 pilot and a 140 main is a good place to start.
What I haven't got is an answer on needles. The gpz750 ones are very fat with little taper. My instincts say I need different needles from an 1100r or similar to stand a chance of making it run right. Nothing suitable seems readily available.
I quite fancy trying pipercross foam filters.
Any advice welcome

like you say : if it ain't broke!! you'll need twin pods and air-correction jets at the very least to get a tune outta any cv carbs. much better to keep the airbox. imho.

Hi, I've already got a k&n element in it and the internal snorkel in the filter lid is cut off.
The bit of the story that I've missed off is that the air box to carb rubbers have shrunk and no longer seal on the air box properly so quite a lot of unfiltered air is getting in. I might be able to refresh them by boiling them and spraying them with silicone (???). Otherwise it needs new ones, hence I started thinking about pods.

With CV's I would retain the airbox if possible for best running.
CV's need still air to function correctly and smoothly.
Open carbs or pods produce unwanted pulses which upsets the slide sync and causes rough running and you would need at least duel pods to help balance out the paired carbs and air corrector jets to make the best of it and reduce bottom end lean out.
I have the Air jets for the 750 or 1100 carbs and can supply main jetting recommendations for both but these are only relevant when the carbs are on the engine they belong to.
750 carbs on the 1100 would need some educated guesswork for the main jet.

CV’s + air box relatively easy to set up.
