Z900 cylinder head fins

#1 PostAuthor: bigclive » Wed Mar 18, 2020 12:42 pm

Have a Z900 A4 with 3 broken fins on the left side of the cylinder head. I've looked at buying another cylinder head but I've also been told its possible to have them welded as a repair. Does anyone have any experience of this and does anyone know a workshop in the North East (Newcastle-ish area) that could do this job to a standard? Thanks in advance

Can be fixed - maybe Rob (Zed1015) can help?
And on the 7th day... Zeds were created!

I had a damaged fin on my Z1100r I bought some aluminium the correct thickness and shaped a piece to fit then got a local engineering company to weld it,I then dressed it,looked perfect afterwards.

Hi bigclive
it's common to find broken off fins on a cylinderhead.
They can be welded but it's advisable to remove the head from the engine, aluminium is a strange metal, the heat can appear somewhere else and warp the head.
A professional welder can repair them without the broken off parts by welding layer after layer .
Good luck with it.

Just like to thank you guys for your suggestions. Welding sounds a viable option so I'll explore that. Cheers
