Needle Bearing Puzzle

#1 PostAuthor: LeeJackson » Wed Mar 18, 2020 9:23 pm

Chaps

I have a question that hopefully someone can help with. Rebuilding a Z750E Engine for my 650 project and all the gearbox bearings etc arrived so started piecing back together. Anyway each transmission shaft has a needle roller bearing on it and on the parts diagrams it shows to be 92046-1030, BEARING,VS20/14A.

So two arrives packaged as this part number, the ID is correct but the OD is too small. Which is rather strange. Checking the parts application this bearing seems to be common to all the smaller motors 550 thru 750. The bearings in my engine have a 20mm is and 27mm OD, the ones that I got are a smaller OD. So what I am trying to figure out is if I have the wrong part number or the parts supplier are labeled wrongly..

Does anyone know what size 92046-1030, BEARING,VS20/14A should be? I am guessing the 20 is the OD which is correct, but OD no indication.

Cheers
Lee

Koyo VS20/14A specification below, which shows an OD of 26mm: -

CMSNL show the bearing as fitting an 80-83 Z750E, but I assume yours is a later model?

Good to hear from you! Sorry I meant to say ID 20mm, I measured 27mm od on the bearing but they are a bit tricky to get a proper measurement on so that sounds like the guy. The ones supplied in the kawasaki packets as closer to 24mm of and narrower so sounds like the issue is they supplied the wrong bearings in the right wrapper.

Cheers Man!

Not a problem, Lee! I would return the ones you have and just order the correct bearings from Simply Bearings or Bearing King.

My little Z400J uses the same size.
I'm almost certain these bearings also had a bushing that fitted over them- maybe that bushing would account for your diameter difference?
I could be talking rubbish (I'm really good at that!), or you probably already know this stuff, but mentioning it just in case.

EDIT. 92028A and 92028B in this diagram.

Correct there is a Bush on them but it’s 2mm bigger than the Kwak bearings I got. Fairly suede they bagged the wrong bearings but I have ordered off the simplybearings site as suggested so will find out soon. Cheers Guys!

Ok now I’m really confused. I order bearings as identified but still not correct when they arrived which makes me wonder if I’ve identified this engine wrongly!?!. Does anyone have a way to confirm the engine number by year etc? Engine Number is KZ750EE083455

Thanks guys!

Maybe the engine colour may help if it hasn't been altered.

By my kawasaki spec. manual I think it could be from one of these as the engine numbers start from :

750R1 KZ750EE066907 Black engine

750L2 KZ750EE066893 Black engine with aluminium highlights

750H3 KZ750EE062601 All aluminium

750E3 KZ750EE062623 Black engine with aluminium highlights

Bit confusing but it may help.

Seems that the bearings in question are all listed as the same for nearly every year. I’ll have a surf through various diagrams I guess and see what I can find. Everything else is identical just these two needle bearings! Grrr

Ok
That’s a good question and I did consider to reuse them but figured that while I’m replacing everything else it would be sensible to change them too. Maybe no point?
