Z1 Tank / Z900 Frame

#1 PostAuthor: steve » Thu Apr 02, 2020 8:08 am

I'm restoring a Z900A4 for a guy who would like two paint sets...one in standard A4 colours using an A4 tank and one in early Z1 brown and orange.

For the early paint set, I was wondering if we could use one of the reproduction petrol tanks (PMC or Doremi) but I'm not sure if and how well it will fit onto a Z900 frame...has anyone else tried this?

Thanks,
Steve

Tank and tail should be ok but z1 side panels will need bit of alteration

Or just use another z900 bodyset and paint and badge accordingly.

Doremi sell z900 tanks/panels etc. painted in Z1 colours.

the onlt issues you have with swapping round tanks is that the fuel tap can foul on the carbs.

Can't remember which way round it was though.

Thanks all for your replies.

It's only the tank we are concerned with...the side panels and tailpiece will remain as the A4 type for both paint sets. Using a Z1 repro tank is just an option as it comes ready painted, but I just needed to know if it fits the Z900 frame. Oddly enough, we have already tried to fit a new unpainted repro A4 tank (not sure who made this) but it was too narrow at the front and wouldn't slide onto the two front rubbers...and didn't want to force it.

Of course, our other option would be to find another used A4 tank, panels and tail piece and re-paint as Ultim8pc has suggested.

Thanks, Steve

I had a Z1 tank that came on my wrong clothes Z1R

On looking at it against the z900 tank it's shorter in length so the seat sits with s gap

I believe that a z1000 a1 is s perfect fit on the the z900a4

But not the z1000a2 as pet cocks are vacuum with different fitting

I could look into this more as I have z900a4, z1000a1and a MK2 with a thought to be z1000a2 tank on it which I was hopeing to see if it fits the z900a4 as would like two paint sets for Z900a4

Isn't a Z1B with a Z900 frame a Z900 with Z1B parts?
