Exhaust holder inserts

Blast!! Finishing up my Z1B restoration, and cannot get the pipes properly sealed. I suspect the inserts are incorrect, as the holder is tight to the head. I've measured the inserts at 28mm overall. Correct or no? Cheers, Rick

The inserts at 28mm are correct.
What copper seals/gaskets are you using between the head and the exhaust headers?

I installed what are supposed oem copper donut types sourced from...Ebay. Reason I asked is the holder is tight to the head and a good 6mm of stud exposed. I had used these composite type gaskets but they crushed unevenly, thus leaking. The system is a Vance & Hines. Any thicker gaskets out there? Cheers, Rick

The OEM copper type compress down as you tighten the 2 x 6mm nuts

I think the original composite type has asbestos and may have therefore been banned. Swopped over to the copper ones to find that they flatten to about 1mm each. After doing this several time with the same result ie. leaks, i had amassed a fair few flat copper ones so just used three per port. Actually one of them only ever gets 2 dont know why.
Put a pair of small gobs of sticky grease on each in turn and they seem to stay long enough to get everything lined up sufficiently to get the clamps nipped up. It helps if they have already been flattened into the port as they expand to the outside diameter and are less inclined to flop about!!
