IMD Pistons

My Zed* needs new gudgeon pins and probably rings - but I see IMD does a full piston kit for £195. Sounds pretty good to me having just spent a fortune on all the cam chain tensioner bits
Anyone got experience of these pistons and rings? What's the quality like?
Cheers

They are good for a stock build.
Cast pistons with the same comp as OEM.
You will need at least a hone if the bores are in spec or a rebore.

Cool. Yes, it's going to be stock in terms of the motor, including airbox. Just uprated suspension, wheels and brakes really. Plus non-standard paint.
I need to measure the bores but they look pretty good, a bit glazed so was going to get them honed anyway.

another thumbs up for IMD here , father and son firm . Dad is very knowledgeable and easy to deal with , the son is a nice fella but doesnt have the same time to chat you through the options
They also offer all the machining work at reasonable prices

Bobbyz1085 has had there pistons in his for many years no problem, I had a set of rings in a old Z900A4 motor no problems, I'm just gathering parts for a GS1000 turbo build and have sourced a set of NOS wiseco forged flat top turbo pistons, Adrian at IMD is going to be my first port of call for rings and wrist pins for said NOS pistons.

IMD supplied pistons did a rebore on my Z1R last year, I needed job doing quickly so I could rebuild and take bike to IOM classic TT - they did it in 3 days. So far all is good, though only covered 350 miles so far. Father and son, nice people to deal with.

This is great feedback, thanks very much all. Can't believe a full piston and ring set with gudgeon pins and circlips is only £195! Looks like I'll be getting a set. Going to measure the bores soon (been busy doing other jobs, sorting my garage out and sorting the front brake on the Triumph, as well as the usual spring gardening chores and still trying to chisel the base gasket off the Zed...).

Hi All,
Thank you for the great feedback. We hope that everyone is keeping safe, and not driving themselves crazy at home!
We try to go through all of the options, and if you end up talking with Adrian, he provides great solutions, and can rebore your cylinder to match our piston kits.
Andrew (myself) is still learning the ins and outs of the piston world, but what I do best is provide great quality parts for a very reasonable price.
I have taken the liberty of establishing a permenamt discount code for all Z1 Owners Club users. You can now use code "Z1OC" for 10% off all orders.

That's really great news. I'm sure you'll get a lot of takers for this.
As this section is an open part of the forum, you might want to make sure that the person ordering the parts is a genuine member of the club. Maybe you could ask for a membership number as well?
