the bar mounted brake master cylinder on my 1973 Z1 is grey, is this correct or is the satin black worn off?

the original satin black can turn into a deep purple shade due to the sunlight. I'm not sure about the grey...

Phillippe is correct, original is satin black, then they fade to shade of purple then eventually grey when the sun exposure has been excessive as seen here..

Yep, thats the colour of mine, suppose I better paint it.

Don't paint it, get it re-anodised
Mark Hutton did offer the service.He will also rebuild the internals if it's any good and worth saving

steve didnt know he did this i will give him a try as ive got 2 euro ones with the clear plastic sight that need doing. The last one i powder coated it and some brake fluid weeped on to it and bubbled the pain. Hence i use dot5 silicone fluid now.

I'm pretty sure the master cylinder has to be stripped of internal/external parts prior to the anodising process as it involves heat.He will apply the same process to the 3 way brake splitter too.

Is it doable? Mine has been re- furbed but I will pay for it again providing its not a fortune.

Word of warning..... I had one re-anodised a few years back but the finish came out too glossy.
Once it has been de-anodised there are 2 options. Polish or leave alone. If you polish the final finish will be glossy or if you leave it the final finish will be too matte. The only way to get a satin finish is to find NOS or re-paint

Does anyone offer a master cylinder sleaving service as I have a perfect 5/8 unit but the bore is pitted.

Past parts in Bury ST Edmunds, they done a triangle A2 cylinder for me, sleeved in stainless cost about £60 posted, i spoke on the phone with them, very tidy job, cylinder sitting in the loft now boxed up as i did not use it in the end.
