St St stutter
Hi guys, have rebuilt a z650, been out on a couple of short runs, runs well pulls like a train, only problem starting off and crawling speed, it has a stutter then pulls well, I have had similar on my z1000a1, raised needle one notch and replaced needle springs, wondering if the air corrector inserts would sort the issue, it on standard air box and filter. Cheers.

My air correctors are for when using pods or open carbs etc so unless you have a very free flowing filter I will not recommend them.
Put the needles back to stock.
Check the plug colour on idle .
To determine if you are rich or lean feather the choke when setting off and at crawling speed.
If running improves then richen the pilots.
If it worsens you are too rich and bogging so weaken them off.
This is assuming the carbs are clean with no blockage or restrictions in the pilot circuit and the ignition advancer is not sticking.

Stock on 650 vm24 needle clip is is 4 from top.

Nice blue flame on tick over when warmed up, so not worth the air jets route, cheers, runs good enough for now, when I get the time, as it happens next few weeks, will check the carbs out, they are nice and clean.

Today, I tried a small adjustment on the air screws, I backed them all off 1/4 turn, then did 50 miles, ran a lot better , no St St stutter, next issue, realised lights dim, not charging, thankfully just the red regulator wire come apart, all good now, also bumped into Keith Z1R, on his classic beauty. A pic of my 650 for those not on face blog.

Good to hear you got it sorted.
It's the little things that can cause the most problems and have the largest effect.
I was going to say that that the blue flame you mentioned is I presume from using a Gunson and whilst they are ok for getting the mix in the right area the results shouldn't be taken as gospel and only to be used as a starting point.
A small adjustment that makes all the difference under load doesn't show up as making any change in the window.
It's the little things that can cause the most problems and have the largest effect.
