Has anyone heard, done or seen a gpz1100b1 with carbs running with the airbox or parts of it? Can it be done is it a viable option to cone filters
Cheers Rob

Rob is the B1 airbox significantly different to the standard J airbox? If it just comes down to the diameter of the airbox rubbers for the injection, could you fit standard j rubbers from box to carbs? Will Barber did a 'how to' which i think is still on here about something similar, but using cut lengths of straight hose of the correct diameter!!

Al, purely out of interest at the moment and having time to ponder. I borrowed a j airbox of Julian right at the start of the project and realised its very different. Just thinking about all the associated problems that go with cone filters, i wondered if you combine the two. The carbs are further back from the head due to the inlets being longer, so that would create issues also.

I may be wrong on this, but I thought the frame of the b1 and J were similar, and the actual cylinder head on the b1 was the same external dimensions as the J head? (you can bolt one straight onto a J block)
So if you had a J airbox and both sets of rubbers (airbox to carbs and carbs to head) then it should just all bolt together?

As i found out, although the j head is similar to the b1 it has a longer inlet due to the injectors, although it works fine on a j engine. You also have to elongate the holes in the inlet rubbers so that you can bolt them to the head. Also the frame around the battery box is very different and the j box doesnt fit. The gpz battery box sits a lot lower and the brackets are different. The front part of the gpz box sits under the rear mount of the tank and the rear part extends to sit over the battery.
Luckily I managed to get a parts manual for the gpz and comparing it to the j one shows up all the differences, which apart from the injection system are quite a few.

Interesting stuff, thanks.
I knew that the inlets on the b head were slightly longer, but wasn't aware that the frames were so different. I'd assumed that it was just the additional stuff (electronics, wiring for the injectors, filter, etc.) that was bolted on that was in a different place.

Cheers Al. Very interesting read, I wonder if it would work with carbs in a b1 engine, frame and air box?
