Engine head and crankcase buffing/cleaning

Chaps

Bike finally in bits, engine out of the frame looking bereft. It is actually in good condition, and I want to preserve the origianality yet at the same time clean it up a bit to a kind of factory fresh standard, but not to overdo things. Not really a fan of blasting, and don't really want to lug a heavy engine about either. As such, I was thinking of giving it a jet wash with Gunk, but then several suggestions for the finned head, block and crankcase.

Remove all outer covers for mild polishing.

Then for the remainder

Had good previous success with Tcut and fine wire wool. Labourios though....
Tried a soft brass wire brush - seemed to work well and brought up a nice, less porous looking finish on the metal.
Not tried a soft rotary brass wire brush on the end of a drill - possible?
The big problem is the head fins and how to clean inside them - long soft wire brass brush perhaps

or a combination of all of the above

Thoughts very welcome on how to proceed, or other tried and tested methods
