Engine removal z1100 shaft

#1 PostAuthor: Mr Bump » Sun Jul 19, 2020 8:16 am

Good morning,

I've got the remains of a 1981 z1100 shaft that I'm breaking.

What's the easiest way of separating the engine from the shaft drive to get the engine? I couldn't quite work it out.

Do you unbolt the bevel box, or do you have to get the swingarm out or get the rear bevel box off and pull the shaft back?

Many thanks,

Olly

Is it still on its wheels ?

Pretty sure you have to remove rear wheel first. Disconnect drive shaft. Disconnect transmission linkage. Before you can remove the engine from the frame.

Hi,

Yep, still on its wheels. It's a rolling chassis with the bottom half of the engine still there.

So if understand you right, you reckon rear wheel off, rear bevel box off, then pull the shaft back off of the front bevel box?

Thanks.

From memory, we had to remove rear wheel, and swing arm - after disconnecting Front bevel gears from Shaft assembly.

Kawasaki exploded diagrams as PDF's added.

Sounds like a pain in the bum, especially as I'll be working in someone else's unlit garage on a bike with no main stand....

Thanks for yr help, much appreciated.
