Z1000-A1 carb mechanical sync

I've just rebuilt my carburettors and trying to set up the initial mechanical sync. Carbs 2,3 and 4 behave themselves but no 1 just won't give me a gap of more than a tiny amount - even with the adjuster completely removed. I took all the linkages back out (the ones that attach to each slide) and cleaned and lubed them as best I could - they all seem to be working OK and not sticking. It seems that the little spring and rose-jointy mechanism thingy can't be taken apart. Any ideas? Could this one be duff in some way? The slide etc all looks fine. Bloody annoying - I've spent ages buggering around with this. :mad

I've also noticed that the throttle cable bracket with the throttle stop is made in two pieces and riveted together, and this has quite a bit of play in it - about 3 mm of movement. Is this normal? Anyway, it shouldn't affect the initial sync behaviour though. Photo attached.

Cheers

Play in the rivets is meant to be there.
Gives the cables an easier time.
What model carbs are they.
Inability to get sufficient gap is usually due to one or more of the carb adjusters being at the limit of their travel.
They all need to be set in the middle before syncing.

Thanks for the info :smile
I'm pretty sure they are the standard 26mm Mikunis for a Z1000-A1.

I've tried setting the adjusters midway, but the one on the end still won't behave itself - to get a gap bigger than naff all I have to wind it all the way out.
