Jammed swinging arm bearings

I’ve a Z1B I am renovating and I am trying to get the needle bearings that were put into the swinging arm, out. Yes, I wish I’d not gone down that route and left well enough alone, but alas it’s all too late.

As of now I have 4 needle bearings which I have utterly destroyed to the point where there is only the the outer shell of each left (between pullers, screwdrivers, drifts etc.) Despite only the outer race of the bearings remaining, these guys are jammed solid (though plenty of grease) into the swinging arm - I have no idea what they did when they put ‘em in. After most of the day trying I managed to get one to a point where it was sticking out of the swinging arm by about 3 mm. This is the extent of my success - none of them will move anywhere beyond this.

I am trying to avoid damage to the arm. Suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Stewart.

I had to carefully cut mine with a mixture of hacksaw blades and dremel until I could use a small chisel to collapse the bearing shell . They are a right bugger to get out !

Been there a couple times myself and as the man says Hacksaw blades were the only way in my limited workshop but it is possible
with patience which is another one of my weaknesses :) Good Luck

Oooohh the Dremel is the man.

Thanks for your help guys. After spending a full day yesterday on these little bastards, the Dremel got them out in less than 2 hours today.

Appreciate your advice gents. Happy camper. Now, what’s next....?

Well done Stewart. Took me ages to get them out on my Z1R swingarm. The Dremel is one of my most used tools at the moment !

When converting from bushings to the double needle bearings on each side,or even from single to double needle bearings I've taken swingarms to a machinist to have the pivot checked to make sure it was straight, nakes life much easier when installing new bearings and shaft.

What size are they? Wil they not respond well to something like this?
