Z1000 - Long Rear Mudguard

#1 PostAuthor: Mjay » Mon Aug 17, 2020 5:11 pm

Guys,
I am currently restoring a 1977 Z1000 a1 model which was imported from the US into the U.K. several years ago.
The bike has been updated to look like a U.K. model with twin disc setup and the correct grab rail with the integral indicator brackets.
I have fitted what I thought was a NOS rear mudguard, but I am having issues with the position of the rear light unit. It looks as if the light sits far too high on the mudguard with the light lens almost touching the rear ducktail. (please see images)
On viewing images on Google of U.K. spec Z1000 they seem to have 25 to 30mm of clearance between the light lens and the ducktail.
Assume that I must have a mudguard from a different model of Z, maybe from a Z1 or Z900.
Can any of you guys on the forum shed any light onto this?

I may swap the mudguard over to the shorter US version and sell the one that I have. It’s in absolutely perfect condition with no corrosion on the underside.

Have you got the right light bracket?. The Short and long mudguards have different brackets.

The light bracket fitted has the part number 220-40796.
This number is pressed into the bracket itself.
I assume this must be the original bracket as fitted to the bike when it had the original ‘short’ rear mudguard fitted.
Any idea on the part number of the correct bracket required for the long rear mudguard?

Thanks Guys for the help with identifying the correct light bracket.

Just placed a wanted add for the correct part.
Hope that someone has one that they are willing to part with.
