I bought a set of 4 original cable ties for the handlebar wiring, because they're the ones you see. The rest can be B & Q's finest as far as I'm concerned.

My question is, before I put them on, are they single use only, or will they release once I've put them on?

You can fit and release them as much as you like. They do not lock in place, in fact unless you loop the tail and put it back under the loop, they slip and work loose anyway
