I'm about to fire up my Z1-B for the first time in 43 years. I've bought a Sealey overhead 1ltr fuel feed but it only has a single pipe and tap spigot. Is there a preference for which fuel pipe I connect it to, and should the other pipe be plugged or left open to atmosphere?

I actually stripped down a spare fuel tap to see how it worked and came to the same conclusion However at the moment that is academic as I connected up my tank to the fuel line for carbs #1 & 2 to check all was OK and heard a strange dripping noise. No prizes for guessing that the noise was the fuel pissing out of the two overflow hoses. Also no prizes for guessing which complete numpty forget to check the float heights before installing the carbs! And it was all going so well I have ordered a second fuel tank to hang alongside the other asit seems the less hassly option.

Many thanks for all the advice guys, but I think you've got your work cut out keeping up with my shenanigans.

Worth remembering too that it is very easy to Inadvertently suspend a temporary fuel bottle much higher than the normal tank level, giving an increased head of pressure which can overwhelm the float needle valve, particularly if old. Try and get the temporary supply suspended at a similar height to the tank to avoid potential issues.

As you guys can see from the pics, I discovered why the overflow pipes were pissing fuel on carbs #1 & 2. I actually got the carbs off the bike and adjusted the float on carb #1 to spec with the clear pipe tool but the overflow still leaked. Then I checked the brass overflow tube in the float bowl itself, and this is what I found on both #1 and #2. Checking #3 and #4 I found that they were, fortunately, both OK. I have a spare carb set and the #1 and #2 float bowls on those look OK so I will do the fuel fill/bubble test tomorrow.

Does anyone know if it's possible to repair the hairline splits in these overflow tubes or is it possible to remove them and get new brass tubes fitted?

1) How are the genuine ones fitted. Are they a press fit or threaded like yours?
2) How do you stop the fuel leaking along the threads?
3) Can you make some for me? If so...
...4) (sitting down) how much?

You could just solder them up and then pass a drill bit through by hand to clean them out.

Genuine are push fit, inner and outer are separate pieces, I use a twist of ptfe tape to keep them sealed, they are made in two parts, never thought about making them for others, I guess I could make the odd one or two.

I think you could be onto a winner there Kev considering 2 out of my 4 carbs had split overflow tubes. I'll hang fire for the moment and go with Walshyco's option first.
