Have just crimped up the LT and HT wiring on my new Dyna S coils. The destructions advise having the HT towers facing up and forwards (twin coils, twin towers on each). Do you guys consider this the optimum orientation on a Z1-B?

Simple answer = YES!.
Also watch the clearance between the coil mounting post and the terminals to avoid any shorts and also that the length of the posts are long enough so that the coil body isn't touching the frame when they are tightened down.

As Rob says make sure to use some alloy tube to space away from the frame. I always put heat shrink on as well.

Thanks guys. I used a bit of the HT plug cap insulation supplied with the kit to sheath the posts as per the pic attached. I'll adjust the post orientation to fit when I install them.

Just a suggestion you may want to replace the fixing bolts for something a little longer so you can get a nut or half nut to sit on them like in Ian's image, this then raises it a little by sitting on the frame cradle moving the outer case of the coil away from the frame tubes and a nut underneath to secure it. Creating a gap will greatly reduce the instance of damage from heat expansion and vibration contact, two thing that will kill the dynas outright . and then you will sulk

I had then on my z900a4 with the " wired George" mod to feed them and they melted 1 after the other 20 miles short of Ullapool, so be careful of that specific mix of mods
