Z1000-A1 Exhausts NOS/Originals

#1 PostAuthor: DogsbolloxofZ1B » Sun Feb 14, 2021 9:11 pm

Do the original ‘77/78 Z1000-A1 exhausts have any stampings on
them? If so what were they?
Also what differentiates A1 vs A2 exhausts other than the shape
of the end cone.
Images would be great.

Prepare to be baffled (pun not intended)....

I was told A1 & A2 are stamped. Only the A2 was stamped. And early A1's weren't stamped, but later A1's were.... so take your pick.

My old 76 build A1 wasn't stamped but who's to know if the pipes weren't replaced down the years.

Garry, my early a1's are also not stamped. Paint is original so likely the pipes are also but can't say for 100%.
I have a 650 which I've had since new which has stamped pipes.
Both bikes 77, A1 early 77, B1 mid 77.

Was told the extra lettering refers to warranty replacements, how true though I can't say. :?:

Never knew A1 and A2 exhausts were different!

On my A2 the stamps are the same as the bottom picture except instead of S - 1980 - 6
mine says S - 1978 - 8

The main thing that struck me about the standard Z1000 is how quiet the bike is (compared to a Z1R)

Agree with you there Kev, and I have to say a more comfortable ride.
