Hope you’re all keeping safe and well - bit of a weird one which has dumbfounded me, I have scoured the web and forums and it nobody can give me an answer

I have a spare set of forks for my z1000ST (UK model) and Intended to turn into Ohlins replicas with RaceTech emulators etc…. Here’s the weird part - they were off a KZ1000ST ( they had US state MOT sticker on them before power coated in Ohlins gold) - when I stripped them down I find that they have bushes on the bottom of the fork leg ( uk model doesn’t) . - I have a KZ1000st workshop manual and it also doesn’t show bushes - I’ve checked only 40mm fork used on Kawasaki’s was the z1000ST and GPZ1000RX (rules out as much shorter than ST ) - all dimension are exactly the same as my UK z1000ST forks - only difference is the KZ1000ST has duel fork springs and bushes. I can’t find a part number for love nor money for the bushes to replace them - I can’t even find bushes that are close to dimensions of the original bushes Fork slider bush 39.28mm * 20mm * 0.95mm and Inner in the fork bottom 43.7 mm * 12mm * 2mm .

If anyone can shed some light on it that would be great

the forks are from a KZ1000 ST from 1980, the E2. Those had the bushes. They're not listed in the European parts manual I don't know why.
The inner tubes of an E1 and of an E2 have different numbers. Probably the E2 inner fork came with the bush mounted on the inner tube.
To determine if you have an E2 fork , have a look at the bottom of the outer forkleg, you'll find only one bolt to retain the axle instead of two (E1 1979).

Have you tried pyramid parts? I think they list bushes by dimensions as well as by application.

Hi thanks you were spot on - just looked at my spare fork lowers and yes they only have one axle retaining bolt vs two on my UK spec Z1000ST - I can't believe I'd never noticed. you're spot on I think they are a US/Canada spec KZ1000E2. Only problem now is I found parts schematics for KZ1000E@ but they don't list the bushes - the hunt goes one:)

Hi Ollie - thanks for answering. - I tried pyramid but set I got didn't fit. - I think the issues is stock are 0.95mm and their replacement were 1mm - Phillipe has got the model spot on KZ1000E2 Canada/Us spec. - now to try and find a part number CMS have a part diagram but no number for bushes. hunt goes on

Thanks for the help - but of a bummer - but I can rescue the fork slider guide bushes - its the inner bushes in the fork leg I'm desperate for - are they listed as part of the fork lower or seperate - I think the part number for the lower KZ1000E2 is 44006-1044 - any help would be great its driving me mad

This pic from CMSNL shows what appears to be a fork leg for an E2 with a bush on it.

The lower fork bushes for the J model for example, are similarly un-available.

So a call to ZPOWER revealed that; with a tiny bit of modification, the bushes from another model could be used to fulfil the same role.
You may be fortunate or not but a photo of the bushes, a drawing with dimensions and a call me reveal something useful.

Hi. came across this tonight on how to calculate what size bushes you need - it’s on brooks suspension site

Based on below ST has 40mm forks

Guide bushes = internal diameter 40mm x 12mm x 2.0mm

Slide bushes = internal diameter 40.70mm x 20mm x 1mm

How do you measure your forks guide bushes?

We list the majority of our guides by make/model/year of bike but we also list by size. Guide bushings are measured using the following format: Internal Diameter x Height x Wall Thickness, in mm. For example, a motorcycle fork with a 43mm stanchion may use a 43 x 15 x 2.00 bush.
