Hi JWO261N
don't look at it as a problem, see it as a challenge !!!!
You'll get there, you're not alone!

If you’ve got your yearbook handy read the story in Buzzard’s bit about the guy who bought a Zed with an engine fully rebuilt by a Zed Expert... it could be worse.
Re: Desperately need help
Ok, replacement carbs arrived today.
Hopefully they look ‘right’ now.
I’m not changing anything, I’ll bolt them on and see if they work as expected.
Fingers crossed.

I’ve been there a few times in the last few days.
Re: Desperately need help
But they are still not A4 carbs.

Correct, had that conversation with another member last night.
Current thinking is that they are z1000-A2?
But the important thing is that I know they came from a running 900-A4.

Do they have a vacuum take off spigot on carb 3 if so they are A2 type and this would need capping,, if not they could be ltd, I see they have the anti tamper plugs on the fuel screws, probably come from the States.

Carb 3 does have the vacuum take-off and it’s plugged with similar cap to those on the 4 inlet headers. As an aside, I may use that vacuum to hook my scottoiler too.
These carbs did indeed come from the US (my friend who sent them to me now lives there and they came off of his own 900-A4)
Re: Desperately need help
Guys, in the last hour or so the bike has started up at last.
I think I’m back in the game with a bike that ‘runs’, though I won’t know how well until I take it to the cafe on Sunday.
Next job will be fine tuning and a really good service.
Thank you all so very much for your help guys, it would be in a skip by now without your voices.

Re: Desperately need help
That' s great news Steve, if they have the stock jets in them they shouldn't be far off of right.

#3 needs the float level looking at again which is a real pain, but hey I pretty good taking them out now so...
Annoying when I had double checked it beforehand but I can see light in the tunnel now.
Onwards and upwards... and thanks again
Re: Desperately need help
Glad you’re making progress at last

Thanks, nearly there now.
I’ll get it fettled at my local bike shop and probably sell it.
I think it needs someone with the know-how to get the best from the old girl. Someone who can tune, service her will love it I’m sure.
Re: Desperately need help
Afternoon all,
Thanks to everyone who has been helping me with this machine.
I’ve now decided to put it in the for sale section as I’ve run out of talent etc.
Hopefully someone on here picks up a bargain.
Thank you all again for all the help extended to me, I really appreciate it.
Regards
Steve
