E10 fuel, and other aberrations

#1 PostAuthor: pablo » Mon Jun 14, 2021 4:30 pm

I can't find any discussion of this topic in the forums, which surprises me.

E10 fuel was introduced last year. I understand all standard fuel at the pumps is now E10 with the higher octane options (97 or 99) remaining at E5 spec.

This is fuel beyond the ken of engineers in the 1970s and is basically damaging to fuel systems of older vehicles - like your Zed! My flatsides got horribly gummed up when left for a while.

I'm no chemist, so I'm asking for advice. I've been told the (what used to be Castrol) Valvemaster Plus fuel additive, originally designed to replace the loss of leaded petrol in the last century (not an issue for your Zed engine), has now been modified to alleviate the high ethanol E10 fuel.

So my question is, does anyone understand the details? Anyone got experience using it over the long term? Do you recommend it? I've just started adding it at every refuel and, while it doesn't seem to have any adverse effect, I wonder if it's actually beneficial?

This is an issue for all of us!

Well the good news is that your in the right part of the country that still has access to e free fuel. According to their websites both shell and esso premium fuels are totally ethanol free. How long for, who knows.
I only ever use one of those two fuels.

Only ever use High octane fuel from Shell or ESSO, but - I've also been putting in Ethomix, from FROSTS RESTORATION in my tank since they started putting Ethonol in fuel.

Thanks John! That's exactly what I was looking for. I wonder why it didn't come up in my searches?

Anyway, some good info there.

I have used star brite star tron additive for a good few years and seems to work fine - in USA the marine industry seem to use it and petrol lawn mowers over the winter season
I started bike no problem after 8 months - worth reading about
You can get it from several suppliers in Amazon
